Project Background

The Datalogic DL-Axist™ is a rugged PDA running Android KitKat coupled with a full touch 5 inch screen. Along with all standard features of an Android based device (GSM, GPS, Camera, etc.), the DL-Axist integrates Datalogic’s core expertise in regards to barcode data collection and advanced imaging technology.
Combining industrial robustness, easy to use interface and Bluetooth, 3G/4G connectivity, the DL-Axist repre-sents one of the most advanced Android-based, ruggedized mobile computers featuring automated data collection. While developing this innovative barcode enabled handheld device, Datalogic was seeking a partner with an in-depth expertise in Android and Linux low level development, coupled with a proven experience on Texas Instruments OMAP™ based architectures.

Datalogic is a global leader in Automatic Data Capture and Industrial Automation markets, and world-class producer of bar code readers, mobile computers, sensors, vision systems and laser marking equipment. We are excited about partnering with Datalogic to develop the next generation of advanced rugged mobile computers. Witekio was a key contributor in different phases of the joint development project, such as Android KitKat BSP adaptation, hardware integration with Linux, porting of Android KitKat on the device, select driver development as well as Android SDK improvements, and power management optimization.

There were two key successes of this project. One was the porting of Android on the DL-Axist to get a reliable and customized Android KitKat BSP. The other was our ability to anticipate and manage all the different components of the project due to our know how and understanding of the workings of a global project.
